Am 04.Juni 2010 wurde in Blankenburg/Harz das neue Bad am Thie eingeweiht. Seit vielen Jahren hatte Blankenburg keine Badeanstalt mehr, denn nach dem das alte Bad am Thie geschlossen wurde, war es dem Verfall preisgegeben.
Durch verschiedene Initiativen von Bürgern und Vereinen kam es aber, trotz aller Schwierigkeiten, in den letzten Jahren zu einem Neubau und ein BIO-Bad entstand. Das ist ein See aus Teichfolie, der durch geschickte Aufteilung mit Schwimmstegen ein 25m-Wettkampfbecken, eine Sprunggrube und einen Nichtschwimmerbereich enthält.

Zu erst versuchten die Rettungsschwimmer mit Kettentauchen die vermißte Person finden. Dies war aber nicht von Erfolg gekrönt, so daß zwei Tauchtrupps zum Einsatz kamen, die das Seegebiet methodisch Absuchen sollten.
Alles was am und im Wasser stattfand wurde kommentiert und die Besucher verfolgten das Geschehen mit großem Interesse.
